Ligament and tendon injuries are common in performance horses due to receptive stresses and over exertion. Support boots can provide the horse with a decrease in stress on the ligaments and tendons of the lower leg and significantly decrease the chance of injury. Equine Lower Leg Tendon and Ligament Injuries![]() The most commonly damaged tendons of the lower leg are the superficial digital flexor tendon and the deep digital flexor tendon. The most commonly damaged ligaments of the lower leg are the accessory ligaments and the suspensory ligament. Injuries usually result from excessive loading and over-stretching of the tendons and ligaments or trauma to the ligaments (can be caused by a hoof hitting the leg or running into something). Support boots as seen in the pictures above can be used to reduce the risk of injury during training and performance. What I like about the Kavallerie BootsI have used numerous support boots throughout my equine career and the Kavallerie boots have proven to be one of my favorites. I like how easy they are to put on and off and they are also very easy to clean. They are comfortable for the horses and provide support without restricting movement. They can be used with both English and Western disciplines.
